At Erasmus University in Rotterdam we have implemented the account-based system. By using the PackBack app, there is no need to pay a deposit upfront! You borrow a reusable, it's added to your account and you return it in the SmartBin. The SmartBin recognises your reusable and removes it from your account.
At Landal Greenparks in Germany, we have a deposit-based system. This means you can borrow a reusable in return for a small deposit. When you return the reusable you'll get your cash back. At the University of Applied Sciences at Amsterdam we have implemented the same system, but with SmartBins. Just hold your card to the payment terminal upon return, and you'll get your cash reimbursed on your banking account.
